Officer & Director
Responsibilities The strength of our council lies
in the dedication and clarity of its leadership. Whether
you're a new Knight or a seasoned member, it's important to
understand the duties and functions of our officers and
directors. Below is a brief overview of each role:
Elected
Officers (Annual Term) • Grand Knight (GK): Chief
executive of the council; oversees operations, meetings,
committees, and communications. • Deputy Grand Knight (DGK): Acts
in GK’s absence; typically serves as Program Director. • Chancellor: Manages council
records and equipment inventory. • Recorder: Maintains meeting
minutes and council correspondence; presides in absence of
GK/DGK. • Treasurer: Manages council
funds and disbursements. • Advocate: Serves as
parliamentarian and legal advisor; ensures procedural
compliance. • Warden: Verifies membership
cards, manages council property, and oversees meeting setup. • Inside/Outside Guards: Ensure
meeting security and assist the Warden. • Trustees (3): Serve staggered
3-year terms; co-chair admission/retention committees and
conduct audits.
Appointed Positions • Chaplain: Provides spiritual
leadership; appointed with diocesan approval. • Financial Secretary (FS):
Appointed by Supreme Knight; manages dues, records, and
compliance. • Lecturer: Enhances meetings
with hospitality and educational content.

the 139th Supreme Convention (2021), the Order had:
• Over
$100 billion in life insurance policies • Coverage for nearly 550,000
members (approx. 30% of total membership) • Recognition as one of North
America’s top-rated insurance providers

Tax Status of
the Knights of Columbus
Council 5011 operates under
the umbrella of the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council,
a 501(c)(8) fraternal benefit organization. All
donations are considered tax deductible.
• Each
council must maintain federal and state tax IDs • Required filings include
nonprofit tax returns, 1099-MISC, W-2s, and other employer
forms • Fraternal year ends
June 30;
tax reporting follows the calendar year (Dec 31)
